Team Richard Doula Assistance Fund
The Team Richard Doula Assistance Fund provides opportunities for clients (families or individuals) who are seeking death doula services but may not have the financial resources to hire a doula for the duration or intensity of services needed. The Team Richard Doula Assistance Fund will cover the cost of a mentor and mentee doula team to work alongside families or individuals through the end-of-life journey.
Families get the support of two caring doulas at no cost
Mentors receive payment for serving clients and sharing their expertise with newly-trained doulas
Mentees receive invaluable experiential training working with a seasoned doula and serving people in need
In the words of the Team Richard founding donor, our “doula made a stressful time bearable and gave us the support we desperately needed ... I wrote her a check and …knew I was fortunate to be able to do that. Many times in my life that would not have been true. Death doulas already donate time. They also deserve to earn a living.”
The founding donor hopes to inspire others who have benefited from doula services to help grow and nurture this fund for years to come.

Who is Richard?
This fund is the inspiration of a generous donor whose 94-year-old father was in immense pain and was unwilling to return to a hospital. He chose Voluntarily Stopping Eating and Drinking (VSED). While the caregiver scrambled to set up hospice care, she also reached out to a doula. Through collaboration, an available, experienced doula was found who was able to come on a Sunday, with short notice. The doula immediately bonded with Richard, validated his choice to VSED, helped him make his wishes known to his family, and educated and cared for his caregivers. “The doula made a stressful time bearable and gave us support we desperately needed over 10 days. I wrote her a check and overestimated what help we might need. I knew I was fortunate to be able to do that. Many times in my life that would not have been true.” The founding donor hopes to inspire others who have benefited from doula services to help grow and nurture this fund for years to come.
